Adoption Information
We are NOT a shelter, all of our adoptable animals are in approved foster homes. So the meeting any of the animals is by appointment only. Before you will be allowed to meet the animal, you must first complete an adoption application and let us do a home visit. If you are interested in adopting, we strongly recommend that you first thoroughly read through our adoption process as outlined below so that there are no surprises when we go over the adoption process with you!

Adoption Process
1) Adoption Application - If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, you will need to fill out an adoption application first. The easiest way to fill one out is to use the online form. It can even be used via your smart phone. Click on the "online adoption form", fill out the form and hit the submit button!
If for whatever reason you can't use the online form but have a printer, please feel free to download a copy of our Adoption Application Form. We have separate ones for dogs and cats, so please choose whichever applies to the animal you wish to adopt. After you print it off and fill it out, send us an email and we will arrange to get the form from you. Or if you have a scanner, please feel free to scan it and email it to us.
NOTE: If you aren't sure which animal you'd like to adopt, just leave the name field blank! You can meet a few of the animals and make the decision at a later date.
Please note that adoptions are NOT based on a "first come first serve" basis. While we do try to review applications in the order they are received, our ultimate goal is to match the animal to the home that best suits their needs. We reserve the right to refuse any application for any reason.

2) Home Visit - Shortly after receiving your application, someone will be in contact with you either by phone or email to arrange for a KAWS member to visit your home (if you live a fair distance from Kindersley, then we will find someone in your area to do a home visit on our behalf, usually we'll ask another rescue or an SPCA/Humane Society). This is a very important part of our adoption process and NO adoption will take place without having one done! We often get asked why we require a home visit to be done. This is just to ensure that our animals are going to good homes! We are NOT looking to see how nice your home is or how good of a housekeeper you are, we are just simply looking to make sure that you were truthful on your application and that your home is indeed suitable for the animal you are applying to adopt. It also gives us a chance to meet any other family members and sit down and talk about the animal some more and how it will fit into your home. We try to make the home visit as informal as possible so that everyone is comfortable and at ease :)
3) Meet & Greet - Assuming the home visit goes well, we will arrange a date/time for you and any other family members to come to the foster home and meet the animal. This step will give an idea to both you and us if this animal will be a good fit for you and your home! If you are from a fair distance away and visiting the animal just isn't possible, then we can put you in contact with the foster home so that they can tell you more about the animal and what it is like to live with. We can also take videos of animals so you can get an idea of what their personalities are like!
4) Finalizing the Adoption - There is just one last step before you can take your new animal home! You will need to read the adoption contract and sign it. Then we will collect the adoption fee from you in either the form of cash or a cheque. After that's finalized, you can either come pick your animal up or we can arrange to have it delivered.
NOTE: Once we process the adoption in our system, the animal's microchip will automatically be transferred into your name with the contact info you provided to us. You will also get an email with an offer of 30 days of free pet insurance. We urge you to read this email and consider signing up for it! It's FREE and there's no obligation to continue with it after the 30 days are up. It even covers accidental death, such as in the case that your animal runs out of the house in the next 30 days and gets hit by a car (hopefully that wouldn't happen, but would be nice to be covered if it did!!)
Please be aware of any animal bylaws in the city/town that you reside in. For example; In the town of Kindersley, there is a limit to the number of pets a household may own. Currently it states that you can only own 5 cats and/or dogs over the age of 4 months. While we don't necessarily agree with bylaws such as that, it is our due diligence to abide by them and we expect you to do the same. So please be aware of this before applying to adopt.
** If at any time you have any questions or need some guidance with your new animal after the adoption, feel free to contact us and we will gladly help you in any way we can! Also, if at any time and for any reason in the future you can not keep the animal, we will take it back and attempt to find it a new home! **
